Transitional Energies

At this moment in astrological history, we are making the transition from the age of Pisces into the age of Aquarius. This blog series will cover the many various aspects of that transition and how it is affecting us. To get us started, this blog post will explain the energies of both ages in order to lay a foundation for later posts.

First, one of the most important things to know is that every astrological age is also influenced by its reflection, which is the opposite sign on the wheel of the zodiac. For example, the age of Pisces is influenced by the energy of Virgo, which is the opposite sign from Pisces in the zodiac. Likewise, the age of Aquarius is influenced by its opposite, which is Leo. These complementary energies are secondary in a sense, but hold equal importance when analyzing the various astrological influences upon the age.

Let’s start by discussing the energies of Pisces. The sign of Pisces rules the 12th astrological house. The 12th house involves spirituality, institutions, sacrifice, death, grief, the afterlife, mystery, secrets, and seclusion. Pisces is ruled by the planet Neptune, which was named after the Roman god of the sea. This planet is associated with the unconscious mind, illusion, miracles, depths and heights of spiritual experiences, poetry, dancing, idealism, imagination, addiction, denial, and mental illness. Another important element of Pisces is that it is a dual sign, represented by two fish. This adds a yin and yang, black and white dynamic to the energy of Pisces which is seen in many aspects of the age.

The opposite sign to Pisces is Virgo. The sign of Virgo rules the 6th astrological house. The 6th house involves daily work, routine, health, cleanliness, diet, hobbies, service, and domestication. Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury, named after the messenger for the king of the gods, Zeus. Mercury is associated with communication and debate, logic and reason, commerce, skilled craftsmanship, traveling, and the nervous system. The symbol of Virgo is the virgin, a depiction most likely originating from the Sumerian goddess Inanna, who was associated with both virgins and mothers. There are other related goddesses, most notably Nibida, Egyptian goddess of grain, and Demeter, Roman goddess of the harvest and mother of Persephone. For this reason, Virgo is also associated with farming and the domestication of plants and animals.

Next we will cover the energies of the age of Aquarius, which we are now transitioning into. Aquarius rules the 11th house, which is related to hopes and wishes, friendship, community, society, organizations, altruism, humanitarian causes, idealism and vision. The sign of Aquarius is co-ruled by the planets Uranus and Saturn. Uranus is the planet of sudden changes, storms, and enlightenment. It is associated with originality, versatility, spontaneity, sudden bursts of inspiration, opportunity and independence; as well as eccentricity, perversion and rebellion. Because of its connection to invention and innovation, Uranus is also strongly associated with science and technology. Saturn is the planet of responsibility, dedication, karmic tests and trials, personal character, discipline, perseverance and tenacity. The symbol of Aquarius is the water-bearer, who is depicted as pouring the waters of truth out upon humanity.

The opposite of Aquarius is Leo the lion. Leo rules the 5th house, which is related to creativity, pleasure, affection, sex and procreation, parenting, passionate love, speculation and risk-taking. Leo’s ruling planet is the Sun, which symbolizes royalty, leadership, confidence, generosity, open-heartedness, magnetism, luxury, grandiosity, greed, and arrogance. The symbol of Leo is the lion, although all felines are generally considered to be representatives of this sign.

This is merely a basic summary of the energies influencing the current age of transition. As we progress through the blog series, I will expand on these concepts and use this post as a reference to remind readers of the influences being discussed.
